Horse Training

Hickorywood Farm offers professional, patient and thorough horse training in the Hunter/Jumper discipline, trailer loading/unloading, starting young horses under saddle, introducing inexperienced horses to the hunter/jumper show arena, desensitization, ground manners, hunter pace training, and trail riding. The focus of our horse training program is aimed at gaining each horses trust and guiding the horse to relax and focus on their human partner. Every horse is given the time needed during each training session to successfully accomplish the goal they are presented with.

The riding arena at Hickorywood Farm is well maintained and groomed with a Tr3 Rake and a large arena sprinkler. It is an optimum area for training horses, located at the top side of our farm, at the end of a long trail path, our riding arena offers a quiet space away from the other horses. Built along the road, the location of our arena, at times, also offers the opportunity to desensitize the horse to road traffic, large trucks, people walking their dogs, bicyclists, and so on. We also offer well maintained jumps and cavalettis, along with flower boxes, brush boxes, roll top and natural jumps.

Every horse we accept in for training goes through a thorough assessment including proper tack and saddle fit, physical evaluation and evaluation of maintained hoof health. These areas are addressed, if needed, prior to the first training session.

Horses are an amazing animal and bring great joy to our lives, and it takes a team to properly care for them. We will work closely with your riding instructor, barn manager, farrier, veterinarian and who ever else is part of your horses life to bring forth the most well rounded relationship with your horse.

Our horse training services are offered here at our farm, as a ship in or, if preferred, we will travel to the stable where your horse is located. From ground manners to showing and competing and all the training in between, Hickorywood Farm may be the connection your horse could benefit from.
